Sodium bi carbonate 7.5% solution is a sterile, nonpyrogenic preparation of Sodium bicarbonate in water for injection. The solution is hypertonic and has an approximate pH of 7.8. NaHCO3 has a valuable role in the treatment of metabollic acidosis which may occur in severe renal disease, uncontrolled diabetes, circullatory insufficiency due to shock or severe dehydration, cardiac arrest and severe primary lactic acidosis. Sodium bi carbonate therapy increases plasma bicarbonate, buffers excess hydrogen ion concentration, raises blood pH and reverses the clinical manifestations of acidosis.
